Manoj Tiwari joins Anna Hazare

Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari joined Anna’s anti-graft campaign at the Ramlila Ground venue Today. The actor stepped up on the stage and sang patriotic songs to kindle enthusiasm among supporters congregated thereat.
Bhojpuri actor and singer Manoj Tiwari is amongst the few who have turned up for his support at the protesting rallies at Ramlila Ground. He also crooned few lines of ‘Hai Preet Jahaan Ki’ in support of the movement. This is not the first time the actor has lent his support to Anna Hazare and his movement as previously he had held rallies in Patna itself. Hopefully, Manoj’s support will encourage other celebrities to join in and make a difference.

Awadhpal Singh Yadav resigns


Uttar Pradesh's Animal Husbandry Minister Awadhpal Singh Yadav, against whom Lokayukta has sought lodging of corruption case, resigned "on moral grounds" on Wednesday. Yadav had allegedly grabbed gram sabha land, facilitated award of contracts to his son and other relatives, got criminal cases lodged against his political rivals and tried to influence the district administration during the election of chairperson of the block development committee of Aliganj in Etah district.

One killed in firing at Ambedkar Nagar, UP

One person was killed and his brother injured in firing between two rival groups in Akbarpur town of the Ambedkar Nagar district, police said today. Peer Mohammad (38), was killed on the spot while his brother Mohammad Hanif (40) got injured in the firing that broke out yesterday in Abdullahapur area of the town, police said. The accused have been identified as Muzamil and Ghulam Khan, and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.

Cloudburst kills 5 in Uttarakhand

Five persons were killed and another was injured when a house was flattened in a cloudburst in Moldhar village of Tehri district in the wee hours of Friday. The cloudburst struck around 0200 hours when the people were sleeping, official sources said. All the bodies have been recovered from the debris of the house, they said, adding, the injured has been admitted to a nearby hospital in Thatyur area. It was not immediately known whether all the victims belonged to a single family.
A team of senior police and administrative officers have rushed to the spot to supervise the search and rescue operation. Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva and Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank have expressed grief over the incident. Nishank has directed administrative officials to make an assessment of the damage in the area. A relief of Rs one lakh has also been announced for the victims.

Mayawati bans Aarakshan in UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati ordered a ban on film director Prakash Jha's multi-starrer Aarakshan across the state.  "The decision to ban the film was taken after prolonged discussion and debate on the movie after it was viewed by a high-level committee of top officials of the state", said an official press release issued late on Wednesday night in Lucknow. The release said, "After due deliberations, the high-level committee came to the conclusion that several exchange of dialogues between different characters in the film were quite provocative and could incite civil disorder and violence."
Elaborating on the subject, it added, "some of the dialogues were potentially so dangerous that they could even provoke a person to commit some crime; hence in the larger interest of maintenance of law and order, peace and tranquility, the decision to ban the film." The ban will remain in effect until further orders, the order stated.
