CBI has arrested the Income Tax(IT) commissioner of Agra, Homi Rajvanshi, for allegedly cheating the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to the tune of over Rs 167 crore when he was posted there (NAFED) as additional managing director of finance. Five others who connived with Rajvanshi have also been arrested in at least three cases. CBI officials say that they are probing 15 cases related to NAFED and Rajvanshi has committed irregularities in most of them.Rajvanshi an Indian Revenue Service officer of 1985 batch, who was posted as Additional Managing Director at the NAFED in 2005 allegedly connived with private parties and issued loans without seeking any collaterals, according to CBI.

Mayawati demands reservation for Muslim, Jat and Generals
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has reiterated her party's demand for giving reservation to Muslim, Jat, poor of upper caste and other backward community. In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Ms Mayawati has again said the Muslim and Jat should be given reservation as per their population and a seperate quota should be reserved for them besides including them in Central list.
The Chief Minister has sent the letter to the Prime Minister today asked him to convert some backward castes to Schedule Caste besides giving them quota as per their population. Kranti Rath Yatra in UP by Samajwadi Party
Samajwadi Party state president Akhilesh Yadav, who is taking out 'Kranti Rath Yatra' to garner support in view of coming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, today said the misrule of Ms Mayawati had become "intolerable" and she should be removed in the larger interests of the state.

BSP MLA Yogendra Sagar suspended
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati suspended controversial party legislator from Bilsi in Badaun district Yogendra Sagar who was accused in a rape case. The suspension of yet another ruling party MLA came close on the heels of suspension of party MP from Jaunpur Dhanajay Singh and MLA Ashok Chandel. According to a party spokesman, "Sagar was suspended after he was found involved in anti-party activities and misconduct." A woman had charged him with kidanapping and rape in the court and the court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him. He had gone underground and obtained a stay order from the High Court.
Videography of Gram Sabha meetings in UP
Centre has stumbled upon a novel idea which will increase the participation of the villagers in the democratic system of villages. Bringing in changes in the functioning of gram panchayats, the Centre has asked for the Gram Sabha meetings to be recorded on cameras. The meetings would be video graphed, photographed and its record would be sent to Additional Development Officer (Panchayat). BM Meena, Principal Secretary, Panchayati Raj and Gram Sabha, has directed the District Magistrates through letters to ensure the implementation of the new system in the council and committee meetings. Also, the Secretary has insisted on holding meetings on schedule and abiding by all the rules. According to the Panchayat Raj Act, Gram Sabha should hold two open meetings in a year. The date and venue of the meeting should be informed at least 15 days prior to it. In order to complete the quorum, presence of 1/5 villagers is mandatory.
BSP leader shot dead in Meerut, UP
A local leader of Uttar Pradesh's ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was shot dead Friday by unidentified miscreants in Meerut city, triggering protests by party activists in various areas. Sanjay Gurjar (45) was killed near his office in the Sadar Bazar area. "According to eyewitnesses, three-four car born assailants opened fire at Sanjay. In a critical condition, he was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," Superintendent of Police (City) P.P. Singh told reporters in Meerut, some 450 km from Lucknow. "We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime, which could be linked to political rivalry," he added. According to police, Gurjar, a member of BSP's district unit, was also a member of the Zila Panchayat.
RAF Constable kills wife, colleague in Meerut
A Rapid Action Force (RAF) constable shot dead his colleague in the RAF and his wife after an altercation in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, and escaped, police said. Jai Prakash, 40, and his wife Shakuntala, 38, were shot dead by their neighbour Anil Kumar, 39, in Transport Nagar area. ‘Anil Kumar used his Service rifle to kill the husband-wife duo, who died on the spot.
3 convicted in Adobe CEO's Son Kidnapping case
A Noida court Saturday convicted three people for kidnapping Anant Gupta, the son of Adobe CEO Naresh Chand Gupta, in 2006 while acquitting four others. Sentences will be announced Monday. Special Judge N.K. Srivastava held Chhatrapal alias Dev alias Chuttan, Pawan and Jitendra guilty under sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 368(wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement a kidnapped or abducted person), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Four other accused – Ram Dayal, Santosh, Veer Singh and Sunil Kumar – were let off for lack of evidence against them. All the three convicts are currently in the Dasna Jail. Youths rape 85 year old Woman
In a shocking incident, two tipsy youths stormed into a temporary house of an 85-year-old widow and allegedly raped her. The incident took place on the outskirts of Hardoi district late on Monday night. Station officer, Attrauli police station, Hardoi, Brijesh Pandey said the victim was a widow and lived alone in a single room accommodation near the house of her sons. The two youths allegedly stormed into her house and ransacked the room. Having failed to find anything worth laying their hands on, they assaulted her and then reportedly raped her. The two then left the scene.
