Srilal Shukla passes away

Renowned Hindi novelist and satirist Srilal Shukla passed away in Lucknow in a private hospital on Friday. 86-year old Shukla was ailing for some time. He wrote for more than five decades to create a series of novels like Rag Darbari, Agyatwaas, Vishrampur Ka Sant and many others.
He was born in Atrauli village of Lucknow district and had graduated from Allahabad University. He began his career as a state civil servant in 1949 but in 1983 he left the services and continued to pursue his literary dreams. A recipient of Jnanpith Award, Shukla’s works throw light on the falling moral values of the society in the post-Independence era.
