Rinku Singh Rahi - A Man against Corrupt System

Rinku Singh Rahi, is one of PCS officer fighting his battle against corruption in his own Government in Uttar Pradesh, one of most politically powerful state of India. Rinku Singh Rahi is fighting war against his own system and corruption involved in it with sacrifice and price of being honest Civil Servant. He is provincial civil services officer in Uttar Pradesh, who was whisked away by the police in a midnight crackdown in Lucknow, has now sat on his protest fast in Aligarh.  This young blood officer with hope to bring change has been trying to expose corruption in welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh(UP). The Lucknow police picked up Mr Rahi on Monday night as he sat on a protest fast outside the assembly and allegedly took him to a mental ward in a hospital. But after the doctors rejected the attempt, Rahi was made to leave the city and was sent off to his hometown Aligarh.
Mr Rahi, who is currently posted at a state-run coaching institute for IAS and IPS aspirants in Aligarh, began his fast unto death on Monday demanding a probe into alleged corruption in the Social Welfare Department of the state's Muzzafarnagar district. He has alleged that despite a peaceful protest, the cops first lathicharged his group. And then, he added, they took him to a hospital and urged the staff there to admit to him to a psychiatric ward. "They told me they are taking me to a hospital because I had high blood pressure. But they tried to admit me to a psychiatric ward. The doctors refused to admit me. They said there was no need to treat me. I tried to expose certain scams that happened and so they want to shut me up. This was done on the instructions of the Samajwadi Party. This was well planned," Mr Rahi told NDTV, narrating his ordeal. His journey is from long time, In March 2009, when he was the District Social Welfare Officer in Muzaffarnagar, he was shot at by local mafia - they fired six bullets at him. As a result of the assault, he lost vision in one eye. The attack happened after he reported accounting discrepancies worth Rs. 40 crore to higher authorities.
So where is New Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, who already facing complaints hooliganism and violent behavior by his partymen and now when a Civil servent try to remove corruption, he is treated like a Criminal by Govt. authorities. Thanks to media channels like NDTV, who raised voice else, Rinku Singh Rahi might be another hero fighting against corrupt system silently and paying high cost for being honest officer. We hope people will raise voice and join hand in fight against corruption with Sh. Rinku singh Rahi.

UP Govt lift ban from Student Unions Election in Universities and Colleges

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday gave the green signal to elections to student unions in all universities and colleges in the state which had remained suspended during Mayawati's rule. "The Chief Minister directed revival of students unions in all universities and degree colleges in the state after assuming the charge", an official spokesman said here. Akhilesh said students unions elections would be held in all higher education institutions and all universities and degree colleges should be informed about the decision immediately.

Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya, an independent MLA from Kunda constituency, took oath as a Minister in Uttar Pradesh. The inclusion of Raja Bhaiyya in the Cabinet came as a surprise, given the young chief minister's efforts to break away from the past tag of goonda raj' duringt SP's last rule in the state. During the campaign Akhilesh had said "Samajwadi Party will be strict on law and order. We will not tolerate people with criminal background," he had said. Raja Bhaiya has been elected from Kunda consituency and has several cases against him. While addessing his first press conference after he assumed charge as UP CM, Akhilesh was seen defending Raja Bhaiya by calling all charges against him a part of political conspiracy by opposition.
Some Big Questions for Akhilesh Yadav which Public needs are:
People of UP provides SP absolute majority of 224 seats in the 403-member Assembly, then why Akhilesh need Independent candidate having criminal charges.
SP will remove "Goonda raj", but how ?
Is it end of Mayawati's so called Corrupt System or Beginning of "Susashan"
Is Raja Bhaiya so qualified that, SP didn't find proper replacement in 224 candidates.
Akhilesh Yadav is new face of UP politics and people expects a lot but not that much.

Akhilesh Yadav sworn in UP Chief Minister

Akhilesh Yadav sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the youngest-ever to hold the office. Mr. Yadav at 38 will be the 33rd Chief Minister of the most populous State. He was administered the oath of office by Governor B.L. Joshi. He took oath in the presence of his father, family members, leaders of various political parties and prominent personalities. Nineteen ministers of Cabinet rank were also administered the oath, besides 29 ministers of state.
The function, held at La Martiniere College ground in Lucknow, was attended by members of SP's first family including Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh's wife Dimple, Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Congress leader Motilal Vohra, Jaya Bachchan, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, CPI leader AB Bardhan and industrialists Anil Ambani and Subrata Roy Sahara. As representatives of BSP supremo and former CM Mayawati, ex-cabinet ministers Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Swami Prasad Maurya were also present. Shortly after being sworn in, Akhilesh, a post-graduate in environmental engineering from Australia, said the first meeting of his cabinet will be held in the evening to take important decisions. "Samajwadi Party will fulfil promises made in the manifesto. Law and order will be our responsibility from today. Action would be taken against officers doing injustice," he told reporters here.

Facebook blocked in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has blocked Facebook on the campus, claiming that the content posted on the website could hurt religious sentiments. “This has been done keeping in mind the objectionable posts related to Islam on Facebook. It hurts the religious sentiments of Muslims and may flare up passions,’’ said university spokesperson Rahat Abrar. Interestingly, Abrar himself has a Facebook account. While the order to block the site was issued nearly a fortnight back, there was no official announcement. Students were informed that Facebook had been blocked only when they made queries after the site did not open in the departments. Jasim Mohammad, president of the central university research scholars association, termed the decision as a “curtailment” on their personal freedom. “Facebook is not only an entertainment medium, but helps us remain connected with research scholars abroad. This is a Talibani diktat by the administration,” he said.
Sources said the decision may have been prompted by the use of Facebook by students for mobilising opinion against the university administration on various issues. There is an AMU community account on Facebook which uploads all news related to the university. Last year, when the university saw protests following the death of a student, the AMU community launched a “remove V-C” campaign on Facebook.

Akhilesh Yadav to take oath as Uttar Pradesh CM today

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav is set to take oath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday for the first time, after his party gained absolute majority by winning 224 seats in the 403-member Assembly. Akhilesh, 38, will be the state's youngest chief minister and his Cabinet is likely to be a mix of youth and experience. He, however, will have his task cut out fulfilling the long list of promises made by his party in its poll manifesto. Samajwadi Party had announced a slew of poll sops, including providing laptops to intermediate pass students, tablet computers to high-school pass outs, allowance to unemployed youths, free treatment to patients suffering from serious ailments and loan waivers for farmers.
Akhilesh will also have to take a call on constituting a commission for taking legal opinion on providing reservation to Muslims and implementing recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission and the Sachar Committee. The SP leader has said improving law and order situation and rooting out corruption in the state are among his top priorities.

Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi resigns

Union railway minister Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, according to TV reports. The PM is likely to accept Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's demand to sack Trivedi.  Trivedi came under fire from his own party Trinamool Congress for hiking the fares in the 2012-13 railway budget that he presented on Wednesday. Trinamool Congress chief Banerjee and party leaders trashed the budget, demanding rolling back of hikes in passenger fares. Banerjee sent a letter to the prime minister asking him to remove Trivedi and suggested Mukul Roy's name for the railway minister post as per report.
A US-educated Trivedi, 61, found himself in a piquant situation immediately after he presented his maiden Railway budget in which he proposed an across-the-board hike in passenger fares to mop up an additional Rs.4,000 crore for spending on railway safety. On a cue from TMC boss, Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, party MPs attacked the hike and demanded a roll back in keeping with her populist politics which has resulted in repeated trouble for the UPA government over issues such as FDI in retail and petrol price hike. Banerjee followed up with a public declaration that she will not not allow the fare hike. She complained she had not not been consulted by Trivedi, which he confirmed.

New Uttarakhand CM is Vijay Bahuguna of Congress

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced that party MP Vijay Bahuguna will be the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Commenting on the announcement, Bahuguna said, “I will take all sections of the party along and there will be no breakup." Earlier, the party indicated that it has not closed any options and even an MP can be considered for the top job in the state. The indication comes a day after marathon meetings senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and AICC General Secretary Chaudhary Birender Singh had with Union Minister Harish Rawat and MP Vijay Bahugana, both contenders for Chief Ministership in the hill state. The party had earlier signalled it would prefer an MLA for the post. Talking to reporters outside Parliament on Monday, Azad said the decision in this regard would be announced either Monday or Tuesday. Meanwhile, Union Minister Harish Rawat-- a front-runner for the CM post, said he was "hopeful that Uttarkahand can have a chief minister today itself". Asked if he would be disappointed if he does not become the Chief Minister, Rawat said, "I am a soldier... soldier should have the habit of smiling on all occasions."

Akhilesh Yadav to be sworn in as CM on 15th March

Akhilesh Yadav, who scripted spectacular success in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections with an image makeover for Samajwadi Party, will be the new and youngest Chief Minister of the state, representing a generational shift in its politics. The 38-year-old leader will be sworn in as chief minister around 1 PM on 15th March along with other members of the cabinet. Ending all speculation, Akhilesh, son of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, was elected leader of the SP legislature party unanimously after senior leader Azam Khan, who is said to have had some reservations, proposed his name. It was seconded by Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav, who also reportedly had some misgivings initially about handing over chiefministership to the young leader who is credited in a major way with reviving the party's fortunes in the elections.
His predecessor Mayawati was 39 when she first became chief minister in 1995 in a coalition government with support from SP. Shortly after the election at the legislature party meeting which included MPs, Akhilesh Yadav told reporters that his government would implement all the promises made in the SP manifesto without discrimination of caste and religion because people cutting across all castes and religions have given a mandate to the party. Tackling law and order will be his government's priority, he said, adding honest officers would be appointed to deal with the issue.
