Alvi calls Mulayam Singh a BJP agent, SP leader wants apology

Congress leader Alvi called SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav an 'agent' of the communal BJP, inviting howls of protest from both the Congress and the SP. "Mulayam used to claim that he was the biggest sympathiser of Muslims. But I am saying that for the last 10 years if there is an agent of the BJP, it is only Mulayam. He dances to the tune of the BJP," Alvi said. At a time when the SP is backing Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential race, Congress leader Rashid Alvi has sparked off a controversy by dubbing Mulayam Singh Yadav as the 'biggest agent' of BJP, attracting instant disapproval from the AICC on Thrusday. The Congress party's spokesperson, Janardhan Dwivedi, said this morning that it does not approve of Mr Alvi's comments.
Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said he is not worth giving any importance. "If a person turns mad and starts making all sorts of baseless statements, then I cannot comment on that", he told reporters. To a question that despite SP supporting UPA, such statements mere being made against the party chief, Yadav said, "He is not worth giving importance". He said if a person becomes "mad", he should be referred for treatment. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav refused to make a statement on the issue, saying he would not comment on such things.
