Bukhari snaps ties with SP in Uttar Pradesh

Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari snaps his year-long turbulent relationship with the Samajwadi Party after he sent in the resignations of his son-in-law and MLC Umar Ali Khan and Civil Defence Council chairman Waseem Ahmad to Mulayam Singh on Saturday. They were the Shahi Imam’s nominees. “The state government has cheated Muslims. It has not fulfilled the promises it had made to the people of the state,” Bukhari, who had actively supported SP in last year's Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, said. He said he had sent a letter to the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to apprise him of his decision to sever all the ties with the party.
He launched a scathing attack on the Akhilesh Yadav regime alleging that atrocities had been committed on them during the one year tenure of the government. “The state witnessed several communal riots and in all of them the Muslims lives were lost. They did not receive adequate compensation,” he said. Bukhari virtually ridiculed Mulayam for ‘dreaming of making it big’ in the next Lok Sabha elections. “Mulayam’s dreams will not come true without the Muslim support,” he said. The cleric also made his intention about taking the SP head-on clear after he declared that he will hold a rally of Muslims in the Mulayam stronghold of Etawah in the next few days.

Raja Bhaiya resigns as UP minister

Controversial Uttar Pradesh (UP) Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias 'Raja Bhaiya' on Monday resigned from the state Cabinet in the wake of the killing of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Pratapgarh district. "Raja Bhaiya ka istifa ho gaya hai (Raja Bhaiya has resigned)," SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters outside Parliament.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday demanded President's rule in Uttar Pradesh. "Even after a year in office, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has not been able to get its act together. If police are not secure, what can common people expect?," the former UP chief minister said.

Raja Bhaiya named in FIR in DSP murder case

Uttar Pradesh minister Raja Bhaiya has been named in the FIRs registered in connection with the murder of a DSP along with a village pradhan and his brother in Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is under pressure to ask him step-down from his ministerial berth.   Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia Ul Haq was shot on Saturday night and succumbed to his injuries, during an exchange of fire between villagers and police, following the murder of the village pradhan in Kunda, Pratapgarh. Akhilesh Yadav has condoled the police officer's death and announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs to his kin.

DSP killed in clashes in Kunda, UP

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was killed during clashes between villagers and police in Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya's constituency Kunda.  In an exchange of fire between villagers and police following murder of the village pradhan in Kunda (Pratapgarh), deputy superintendent of police Zia Ul Haq suffered gunshots and succumbed to the injuries late Saturday night after an exchange of fire between villagers and police in Kunda.
