BJP MLA Suresh Rana arrested

Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Suresh Rana arrested for inciting violence in riots-hit Muzaffarnagar district. The police had obtained the arrest warrants against 4 MLAs Bhatendu Singh, Hukum Singh, Sangeet Singh Som and Suresh Rana couple of days ahead. The arrest was made from Samta Mulak Samaj Chowk at Lucknow's posh Gomtinagar area. Earlier, the Muzaffarnagar police have said that the arrest of BJP and BSP MLAs accused of inciting violence in the district will be made after the state Assembly's monsoon session gets over on Friday.
A police team from Muzaffarnagar had visited Lucknow on Wednesday following information that BJP MLAs Hukum Singh, Sangeet Singh Som and Suresh Rana were present in state capital. Rana has been accused of giving hate speech which escalated tensions in the Muzaffarnagar district which eventually broke violence and left behind 47 people dead.

PM, Sonia, Rahul gandhi in Muzaffarnagar, UP

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Muzaffarnagar on a day-long visit to violence affected areas of Uttar Pradesh. "They will stay here for two hours during which they are expected to visit three relief camps where riot-hit people are taking shelter," District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said. After their arrival in Muzaffarnagar around 10:00 AM, they will visit the rural Shahpur locality along with local leaders and administration officials, the District Magistrate said. They are expected to go to relief camps at Basikalan, Tawli and Sanjhak, he said. The area is about 30 km from district headquarters and some camps are still functioning as riot-hit people are staying there. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who visited the district on Sunday, was greeted with black flags and slogan shouting by angry villagers. A strong posse of state policemen and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel will man each and every location in the city during the VVIP visit, official sources said.
